The Issues

  • Economic Development stands as one of my foremost priorities as a city councilor, and its significance cannot be overstated. Westfield's current demographic composition, with roughly 88% residential and only 12% commercial, reveals an imbalance that needs our immediate attention. This disproportionate ratio not only places an undue burden on our residents in terms of taxes but also limits the opportunities available within our community for new families.

To address this issue, I am committed to implementing comprehensive strategies that will foster a more balanced and thriving local economy. By attracting and retaining businesses that offer quality jobs, we can diversify our tax base, thereby easing the financial strain on our residents. This includes concrete plans like developing programs that support local businesses, and collaborating with regional economic development agencies to attract industries that align with Westfield's unique character and potential. This will not only make Westfield a more attractive place to live but also provide our citizens with a wider array of employment opportunities right in their hometown.

  • Managing the strain on infrastructure and public services due to the rapid growth is vital in order for the community to continue to flourish.

During my tenure in office, I aim to enhance the infrastructure by improving road layout, expanding bike lanes, optimizing utilities, implementing more efficient downtown parking solutions, and bolstering community services to address the needs of our growing population.

A dream of mine for our city would be a network of bike lanes connecting all of our city parks. I will encourage a city that is walk-able, safe for kids and families to explore, and not dominated by parking lots and traffic congestion.

Westfield residents deserve to have options for getting around their city without risking their life at unsafe intersections.

  • Ensuring the well-being of our society hinges on supporting and properly funding public safety departments. Adequate resources are essential for effective law enforcement and emergency response.

Simultaneously, we need to take care of the people who take care of us – our police officers and firefighters – by improving their quality of life. This commitment includes providing them the means to afford to live and work in the city they love, and ensuring their ability to take care of their families' basic human needs, by offering outstanding benefits and support.

This not only builds trust and upholds civil liberties but also creates a safer, more equitable environment for all citizens.

  • In our vibrant democracy, I believe that every citizen deserves more than just a brief moment in the voting booth every few years to have their voices heard. It's time for a positive change.

As your dedicated representative on the city council, I am committed to creating a more inclusive and engaging decision-making process. I firmly believe that our community's strength lies in its collective wisdom and diverse perspectives.

To achieve this, I will establish and maintain open and transparent channels of communication with all residents. I want you involved at every stage of crucial decisions related to development, zoning, and infrastructure.

I will host regular town hall meetings, providing a welcoming space for meaningful discussions. Additionally, I pledge to be accessible and open to your concerns and ideas at all times. Your input will shape my approach to addressing the issues that matter most to you and achieving our shared goals.

Together, let's build a stronger, more vibrant community where your voices are not only heard but valued and integrated into the fabric of our decision-making process.

  • Cultivating a sustainable future that respects our community's rich history and preserves our cherished old town charm is of paramount importance. To achieve this, we need to adopt policies that promote responsible growth, minimize environmental impact, and safeguard our precious natural areas. By nurturing green spaces and adopting practices in harmony with our environment, we can ensure that both our environment and our local economy thrive for generations to come.

Responsible density management is key to achieving this balance. It allows us to preserve green spaces, enhance community connectivity, promote economic vitality, and improve the health and well-being of our residents. By integrating density into our urban planning with a focus on sustainability, we can create a community that thrives while safeguarding our natural beauty and historical charm.

  • Understanding the challenge of change, I've witnessed Westfield's transformation from a small town to a thriving city. This growth has brought both opportunities and difficulties, highlighting the need for an inclusive approach. Some cherish our town's charm, while others seek more for their families. As a mother of five and lifelong resident, I believe we can embrace both perspectives.

I'm committed to a balanced, progressive approach to city development. I'll advocate for policies that support our diverse, growing community and protect our landmarks.

As your councilor, I'll celebrate our diversity and history through inclusive events, honoring every religion and heritage. We'll preserve our rich past while creating an inclusive environment, where everyone feels valued and proud to call Westfield home.

My goal is to build a Westfield where all are welcome, embracing both its history and it’s future.
